Can RDDirect do statistical work for me?

No, but we can advise you who can, and whom you should ask for advice depending on where you work. Your first contact should always be with your local R&D Department or Research & Development Support Unit (RDSU) See map.

In addition, our website features a number of online statistical packages which may be appropriate for your needs.

Do I have to pay for advice and information from RDDirect?

No, our services are always free, apart from the cost of your telephone call to RDDirect (0113 295 11 22). You can also contact us by email if you prefer (info@rddirect.org.uk). However, there are times when you may have to pay for services provided by an advisor for undertaking work of a statistical nature.

How long may I have to wait for a reply from RDDirect?

The helpline phone is staffed from 8.30am-5pm from Mondays to Fridays, with the only exception being public holidays. After our initial discussion with you about your enquiry, or after we have received your email, we aim to come back to you within two working days with answers. Occasionally it may take longer to give you answers: it depends on the complexity of your question. We always try to answer your enquiries as soon as possible, and you may have a reply the same day. If we have to contact other experts to seek their advice, it may take longer. We always agree with you a time by which we shall contact you again, so even if we haven’t finished our enquiries, we can report back to you then what progress we have made.

It helps if you can explain your enquiry fairly fully, especially if you are contacting us by email!

How does RDDirect respect confidentiality?

Any information you give us will only be shared with other members of the team at RDDirect, unless you give us your permission to do otherwise. If we need to ask other experts about your enquiry, we shall ask your permission so to do. We ask you for your full name, your address and other contact details, and we like to know what is your job and what is your background discipline. This is so that we can collect (anonymous) statistical information about the use of the RDDirect service.
